The top three most visited countries in 2017 were revealed and have upset last year’s order and could reach 88 to 89 million according to an estimate revealed by the Minister of foreign affairs
The country that ranked second is Spain, which moved ahead of the US with 82 million foreign tourists, or a 9% increase according by Mariano Rajoy, Spain’s prime minister. The latter adds that Spain has become the second country worldwide in terms of tourism revenue, highlighting the “great effort” made by the sector in light of the competition.
2017 is a record year for Spanish tourism despite terrorism and a major political crisis in the Catalan region.
It should be observed that in 2016, with 75.3 million visitors, Spain occupied third place in this ranking close on the heels of United States (75.6 million).
The United States thus closes up the rear for the top 3 for 2017 after several years of strong growth in international arrivals .
